A 29-year-old Kona woman who allegedly stole a rental car is facing theft and drug charges.
Michelle T. Regohos was charged late Wednesday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and two counts each of theft, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Her bail was set at $11,500.
The charges stem from March 4 when Regohos reportedly failed to return a 2012 Nissan Altima sedan that she had rented from a Kona International Airport vehicle rental company, according to police.
Regohos, according to police, was located in the vehicle on Tuesday in Kailua-Kona. Police allege Regohos changed the plates, which resulted in the theft charges.
Further investigation led to a search warrant for the sedan where detectives reportedly found drug paraphernalia, including 31 packets and a glass smoking pipe, all with crystalline residue believed to be methamphetamine, according to police.
